Frederick III (1648-1670) and Christian V (1670-1699) also had Norwegian coins made in gold. These were ducats - in multiples and fractions. However, the extent of this minting was very limited and was of no significance for trade or monetary circulation in Norway. The minting of species taler continued but the large production of coins in mark denominations became equally or even more important
