In 1879, ten coins from Mære Church in Nord-Trøndelag were submitted to the Coin Collection at the Institute of Archaeology, Museum of History and Archaeology, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim. In 1966, 565 coins were found during archaeological excavations led by Hans Emil Lindén from the office of the Director General of Historic Monuments.

Norwegian medieval coins make up the largest part of this find, but it also includes Danish, Swedish and German coins from the Middle Ages and more recent times.
