In 1277 King Magnus Lagabøte (1263-1280) Lagabøte (1263-1280) and Archbishop Jon Raude agreed on a treaty, the Concordat in Tønsberg, in which the Archbishop's right to issue coins was established:

The first confirmed archbishop coin is a bracteate bracteate decorated with the frontal head of a bishop wearing a mitre. Today, we know of 18 such archbishop head bracteates, all found under church floors during building work, inspections and excavations in the following churches:

  • Eidskog, Hedmark
