27 coins and bracteates from Torpo
Stave Church in Ål parish, Buskerud, were submitted to the Coin Cabinet.
Six coins were found under the church floor in 1899 and submitted to the
Coin Cabinet. Approximately 25 were submitted to the Coin Cabinet in 1950
by Cato Enger, a building consultant. According to Enger the coins were
found in the neighbourhood of a grave in front of the quire arch inside
the church on 10 July 1950. According to Hans Holst the find was made during
a professional visit to Torpo and Reinli by Professor Anders Bugge in July
1950.
In the course of archaeological excavations in 1954 and 1955, a further 163 coins were found. |
